What Does Family Mean to Me?

Family are the ones you can turn to for anything.

What is My Family Structure Like?

I was raised Catholic for a while. I’m the second oldest of 7 kids: 3 brothers and 3 sisters. 2 of my brothers are biological, and the third joined our family as a teenager. My dad lives with 2 of my sisters, and everyone except one of my younger brothers and me still lives in Michigan. That brother is in Arizona.

My wife and I have 3 wonderful dogs and no plans for children of our own. We love our 5 nephews and 2 nieces to bits and get to spoil them often. We’ve been together for 13 years and married for 7.

My favorite Happily Ever After Divorce story

Unfortunately, my father divorcing my mother. He was convinced he would lose the children to my mother, who had substance abuse and mental health issues, so he waited until my youngest sister turned 18. Everyone is happier without her in our lives.

As a divorce attorney, I had a lovely experience with a couple that was simply done fighting. The wife hired me, and we drew up the paperwork. After a few minor changes requested by her husband, the divorce—ending a 10+ year marriage—was finalized within a few months. Both parties are now happily married to other people; I know because I handled the wife’s prenup sometime later.
