Kristi Gibbs, Esq., Ph.D - Atlanta Divorce Law Group

Kristi Gibbs is a top notch legal professional, as has been for several years. However, even before entering the field of family law, Kristi developed some of the best skills a family lawyer can have. She has worked in several fields that give her a unique perspective on what a family can look like, and has personal family experience that shapes the ways in which she interacts with her clients.

Kristi began her career as a mental health counselor once she earned both her bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1995 and 1997. She started off as a counselor, and advanced her career each year. She received her Ph.D in counselor education and supervision from the University of New Orleans in 2004 just a few years later. As she worked more with patients in need, she wanted to do more to help people, and pivoted to law. She attended the Georgia State University College of Law and was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2020.

Before joining Atlanta Divorce Law Group, Gibbs served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Appalachian Judicial Circuit prosecuting juvenile cases. This position provided invaluable courtroom experience and an opportunity to apply her background in mental health counseling in a legal context.

She now practices family law, which she has a strong personal interest in. After a 3 year post-law school tenure as an Assistant District Attorney, Kristi now works as a family law attorney at Atlanta Divorce Law Group. Kristi has a bachelor’s degree, masters degree, Ph.D, and J.D., which all show in her ability to follow through on any ambition she holds. Her background in therapy gives her the ability to connect with her clients and more deeply understand their struggles. A part of a non-traditional family herself, Kristi Gibbs is committed to listening to your story and providing you the help you deserve.

What Does Family Mean to Me?

Family means both the people who are connected through blood as well as the people we choose. My family history is definitely not a picture out of Leave It to Beaver. My parents divorced when I was 10 years old, and my father raised me through two additional marriages, so I’ve seen the challenges of divorce both in my own nuclear family as well as in the dissolution of my own marriage. I was raised with a brother who was two years older than me. He passed away in 1991 at the age of 20. You’ll hear me refer to my sister, who is actually my first cousin, but we are very close, and after losing my brother, I guess I decided I needed a sibling. Family is the people you choose to spend time with, share your life with, and on whom you know you can count on when life is challenging you.
