To me, family means support and reliability. Anyone you know you can count on no matter what is family, regardless of their biological connection to you. Importantly, this definition includes our furry friends because no one has ever been there for me like my dog Ducati whom I’ve loved for over ten years.
I have a personal commitment to Happily Ever After Divorce because I grew up in the opposite of a happily ever after divorced family. It is so important for families to remember that regardless of the divorce, when there are children involved, you are tied to each other forever, and it will be important to find a way to navigate that situation.
My family currently consists of my husband and my two dogs, but we are expecting to grow by one in May 2020. My husband’s and my parents do not live close by, so we emphasize our relationships with close friends (our chosen family). We are both close with extended family and are very lucky to have support from so many sources.
I grew up in Gwinnett County and have lived in Athens, Atlanta, and Marietta since then. My parents divorced when I was four years old, but their litigation lasted well into my teens. I always knew I wanted to be an attorney and after graduating high school in Gwinnett in 2007, I attended the University of Georgia. With that, I studied political science and philosophy at the University of Georgia, graduating in 2010. I worked for a law firm for three years and subsequently attended law school at Georgia State University, College of Law. I have practiced continuously since graduating in 2016, and I have focused exclusively in family law since 2018.
